In this respect, Rune Factory 2 is similar to the original Rune Factory. Like the Lessons that are taught in School, Yue's 'Bargains' option differs from day to day and you first need a Kitchen if you wish to purchase any Kitchen Utensils from you. You need to buy a Kitchen, Forge and Pharmacy from Yue if you wish to be able to use any of the Lessons you learned in School. Simply having a Workshop will not allow you to do anything. You should have more than sufficient Lumber and Gold when you begin the 2nd Generation to afford all possible Expansions, but if you only can afford one at the start, choose the Workshop, as this is the location where any Cooking and Forging activities occur in Rune Factory 2. The option to expand the School by building a Workshop requires 100 Wood and 10,000G. Byron, as always, is in charge of these expansions. You will be told this quite clearly the first morning you attend school. In the case of the AMETHYST RING, however, you will need two pieces of Gold and a piece of Amethyst to create the original Ring.Īlthough you can complete every Lesson that Mana and Barrett offer, you will not be able to put any of your knowledge into practice until you build a Workshop. In the case of the basic Weapons, you will need nothing but the original Weapon in order to upgrade it at the Forge. The Accessory Recipe that is not taught is the Recipe for an AMETHYST RING. These include Recipes for upgrading the most basic Weapons including a BROADSWORD, CLAYMORE, SPEAR, BATTLE HAMMER, BATTLE AXE ROD and SMALL SHIELD. Note that there are a few basic Recipes both for Weapons and Accessories that will not be taught in School nor obtained as rewards for defeating a 'Boss'. In order to become successful at cooking or forging, you must practice by making the same items again and again to raise your Skill Levels. They will teach you the Recipes but they will not make you a successful cook. The Classes at the School are theory rather than practice. It is only when you access the specific Menu in the Workshop that you will see the Skill Level required for each Recipe you have 'learned in School. The actual Skill Level required for each 'Recipe', whether it is a Cooked Dish, Weapon, Accessory or Medicine will not be given in the Lesson itself. The first Lesson in the list will remain in the Menu, however, even after you have 'learned' it. In most cases, once you have taken a Lesson, it will disappear from the Menu, or be replaced by a new one. It will 'count' as your second lesson even if you took the same lesson previously, so be careful before you choose a Lesson. A note of caution here to players: you can take the same lesson twice by accident if you highlight it again. You are allowed to take a maximum of two Lessons from each teacher per day. The Lessons offered each day of the week are different and the Holiday is a holiday from School, so there are classes only five days each week. Barrett teaches in the afternoons and his Classes teach lessons on how to forge Weapons and Accessories for the most part. Mana teaches in the Morning and her classes deal with Cooking and Medicines. At the School, there are two different teachers and each teaches specific classes. When the School is completed after 10 days, the 2nd Generation game can begin as soon as you walk towards the new building. The School cannot be built until your Child is born in the 1st Generation. In Rune Factory 2, the potential to obtain Recipes either for Cooking, for the Forge or the Pharmacy is predicated on the existence of the School. As there is no potential to cook or forge in the 1st Generation, the Recipe/Cookbook Guide strictly is applicable to the 2nd Generation of the game. My Comprehensive General Guide can be found at: This Guide deals simply with the Recipes in Rune Factory 2. This is not intended to serve as a comprehensive guide for the game but is one of the little 'mini-guides' I create for Harvest Moon games as a quick reference guide for players.
